Isabel Hendrix was an amazing daughter, sister, and friend. She had the unique ability to make everyone laugh and never gave up on the people and purposes for which she believed. In July 2020, Isabel collapsed and never regained consciousness. She was about to move into her first apartment and start her sophomore year at Virginia Tech, where she had been admitted to the Biomedical Engineering program. Isabel really wanted to learn and practice engineering that would have a direct impact and help her fellow humans. It was later confirmed that her life was tragically shortened by an unknown and undiagnosed genetic heart condition. The world will never know her full influence on
this world, but everyone who was fortunate enough to know Isabel knows the lasting impact she had on their lives.
To celebrate her life and keep her memory alive, Isabel's family has established the Isabel Hendrix Foundation. The foundation will establish a memorial scholarship to contribute to the educational needs of female students attending the Southwest Virginia Governor's School. Isabel attended the Governor's School beginning in 2017 through 2019. Isabel thrived at the Governor's School and loved the faculty and students. She found her tribe there. The dedicated faculty helped Isabel grow and find her true passions. She made lifelong friends and discovered her love for engineering at the Governor's School. The rigorous curriculum she received aided with Isabel's acceptance to Virginia Tech, and ultimately allowed Isabel to receive her degree from Virginia Tech posthumously. While she can no longer be with us, we hope this foundation can help other amazing, young women thrive as she did.
